THE SUBORDINATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
TO THE FATHER AND

POINT 10: The Holy Spirit
is sent by the Father and also by the Son.
John 14:26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom
the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you
of everything I have said to you.
John 15:26
When the Counselor comes, whom I will send
to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he
will testify about me.
Elsewhere, we are taught that Jesus Christ was sent by the
Father:
John 6:29
Jesus answered, "The work of God is
this: to believe in the one he has sent."
John 8:29, 42
[29] The one who sent me is with me;
he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him. [42] Jesus
said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from
God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me.

POINT 20: The Holy Spirit
is called "the Spirit of God" and "the Spirit of Christ."
Romans 8:9
You, however, are controlled not by the
sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone
does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

16:7 When they came to
the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would
not allow them to.

POINT 30: The Holy Spirit
speaks not from Himself, but speaks the things which He hears.
John 16:13
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes,
he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak
only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
In a similar way Jesus said of Himself "my teaching
is not mine, but His that sent me."
John 7:16
Jesus answered, "My teaching is not
my own. It comes from him who sent me.
John 8:26
I have much to say in judgment of you. But
he who sent me is reliable, and what I have heard from him I tell the world.
John 8:40
As it is, you are determined to kill me,
a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such
things.

POINT 40: It is the work
of the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ.
John 16:14
He will bring glory to me by taking from
what is mine and making it known to you.
In a similar way, Christ sought not His own glory, but the
glory of the Father who sent Him.
John 7:18
He who speaks on his own does so to gain
honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is
a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
