POINT 10: Adam fell.

Genesis 3:1-6 [1] Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, `You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" [2] The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, [3] but God did say, `You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'" [4] "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. [5] "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." [6] When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

The steps in the Fall were:

Listening to slanders against God
Doubting God's word and His love
Looking at what God had forbidden
Lusting for what God had prohibited.
(The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the vainglory of life, verse 6. Compare 1 John 2:16, below.)
Disobeying God's commandments.

The woman was the first in this deception and transgression; verse 1, etc.

Compare 1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.

POINT 10: Through the one man's disobedience the many were made (or constituted) sinners.

Adam stood as the representative of the race; indeed, he was the race, and all coming generations were in him.

Compare Hebrews 7:9-10 [9] One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, [10] because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.

By Adam's fall mankind fell. "All sinned."

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned

Many people say: "Why should I have to suffer for what Adam and Eve did? I would rather stand for myself. I would have been smart enough and wise enough not to make the mistake they made."

God's plan, when we see the whole of it, is far more gracious than this.

Keep in mind that the angels were in the visible presence of God; they could see God, perceive Him as we perceive another person in the same room, communicate with Him directly as we carry on conversations with each other. The angels already were in Heaven. They were not burdened with a physical body with carnal lusts. They did not have to deal with sickness, injury, crime, financial problems, hunger, family disputes, etc. Even so, one-third of the angels sinned.

As the first Adam fell for us, so we all would have done for ourselves; so the second Adam obeyed for us, as none of us would have done if left to stand for ourselves.

POINT 20: The results to women of Eve's sin.

Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.

Genesis 3:16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. ... "

This indicates that Eve had the physical capacity to bear babies in Eden and she would have felt some discomfort; God increased the discomfort tremendously for all women as a punishment.

Genesis 3:16 To the woman he said, ... "Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

This is a very interesting passage that is usually misinterpreted. Most readers interpret this as the Biblical basis for a wife's sexual desires for her husband. However, Dr. John Hagee has pointed out that in Greek the word for sexual desire is eros, from which the English word "erotic" is derived; in the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Old Testament), the word rendered here as "desire" is not translated eros. This sentence means that the woman will desire her husband's power and authority. She will want to be in charge, to rule over her husband, but her punishment is that he will rule over her.
